Welcome to the Bailiwick of Ivyeinrust! The Bailiwick is a branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism serving Center City Philadelphia, South Philly, West Philadelphia, the University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University, the University of the Sciences, the University of the Arts, Temple University and surrounding areas.
We are a non-profit educational organization devoted to the study and recreation of the pre-17th Century world. We are participatory in nature: rather than being mere spectators, we dress, dance, fight and feast much as was done before the year 1600. We research various arts and sciences from our chosen period, and we share what we have learned. However, we are also a very social group: we learn while having fun!
The Bailiwick of Ivyeinrust is a canton of the Barony of Bhakail, the chapter of the SCA covering the Greater Philadelphia area. (A canton is a smaller, local branch reporting through a barony.) Members of the Bailiwick are also full and active members of the Barony of Bhakail.
The Bailiwick of Ivyeinrust was founded in 1981 and has a rich and interesting history. It is the only remaining canton in the SCA using the alternate title of “Bailiwick” instead of “Canton”. The name “Ivyeinrust” is derived from the words “University” and “Ivy” because many of its founding members were affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania, one of the eight universities in the Ivy League.
The Bailiwick and the Barony are located in the Southern Region of the ancient and mighty Kingdom of the East, the second-oldest of the twenty kingdoms in the SCA. The Eastrealm stretches from Delaware in the south to Nova Scotia and Quebec in the north, rallying both English-speaking and Francophone SCAdians under the purple-and-gold banners of the East.
We look forward to seeing you at one of our activities or events!
